We were Band of The Month on:The Deli Magazine
For December 2009

In the winter 2010 edition of 'The Deli Magazine' they stated:
_____________________________________________________________
"It has been too long since I have heard great East Coast rock. Competing against some of the all time greats can be a challenging road for the average New York City act. If the Twees were hitting for average, they'd be leading the league.
"Lessons to Connect" has all the elements of the great 1970's NYC acts that revolutionized music as we heard it. Stripped away are the mundane production tricks and mediocre writing that plagues our industry, replaced by musicianship born from vintage rock influences mixed with lyrics that would have had Debbie Harry on her band's case to make something better.
"Different Pages" is the best song I have heard during my early career with this magazine. Taking the listener on a personal journey of rejection followed by redemption, it is the perfect cut for someone to listen to when they're not sure if life's worth living, a guaranteed Top 10 college hit within months.
Did I grow up on the East Coast? Sure. Does it alter my ability to criticize less than stellar music? Not at all. Of course, that's not a problem I'm facing at the moment, I just spent the last few hours listening to "Lessons to Connect" by the Twees. It wouldn't be a bad idea for you to do the same."
**We received a 5 out of 5 stars on the EP**

The Twees live at Crash Mansion – November 18th, 2009:
The boys from The Twees; Jason Abrishami (Guitar and Vocals), Alex Schwartzberg (Guitar), Will Mazoli (Bass) and Logan Sorrentino (Drums), although they all live in Long Island, came together through Craigs List. They’ve only been performing together a year which is hard to tell when you see them live because they are so cohesive as a group. They sound just as polished on stage as they do in their recordings. The lads, who are 17-19 years old, have impeccable confidence and amazing stage presence. Their music, with ska and punk roots, makes me want to get up and have a good ol’ fashioned skank around the room. The first song The Twees played in their set at Crash Mansion is currently unnamed and fans will get a chance to pick the title. The Twees sound is like Reel Big Fish, Modest Mouse and Artic Monkeys. The upbeat guitar riffs and incessant drums make their music irresistible. Their song “Full Circle”, off their EP Lessons to Connect recorded at The Aroom Studios, reminds me of The Strokes’ “Last Night” and “A Punk” by Vampire Weekend.
The term ‘ Twee’ can be used in a derogatory way, implying it’s too cuddly, cute, melodic, and basically, happy, as opposed to its punk influences. I personally like an occasional break from emo angst, angry rock and weepy acoustics to inhabit a world in major key. Especially when their songs explore dead relationships that don’t leave you in the corner crying but express it’s over, you want to dance and you are going to be ok. Their lyrics reflect a complete acceptance that love can fail and we are more than capable of moving on, for example in “Start Again”: “It is sad, but it is true. I am not the one for you.” It’s a reoccurring theme in The Twees songs, in “Full circle” Jason sings, “Now every time I think of you. It reminds me that we’re through.”

"It’s been a while since I’ve come upon bands who decide not to live up to the industrial norms. When contemporary pop-indie rock meets garage post-punk roots you will find The Twees, a Long Island band....The Twees began their set. All I could think of was my youth and growing up listening to The Strokes or Hot Hot Heat or Reel Big Fish or any other pop-punk-ska-funk themed band. Being Long Island natives with amazing stylistic energy, I give The Twees a lot of credit for staying true to their hometown influences. The catchy melodies and beats from their EP, Lessons to Connect, denotes just that: a young, up and coming band that’s willing to test against music that’s ‘in’ right now and bring back sounds with a bona fide musical edge, which no one can deny, brings on a powerful connection between both crowd goers and its musical providers."

"The three guys in this band have what might best be described as a New York City sound. Their music draws heavily from artists like Lou Reed and early Talking Heads. Cool thumpy rhythms combine with strange staccato guitars and reserved spoken/sung vocals. Hard to rate an EP this short...but our initial reaction is that these guys ROCK"

"Turn Up The Sound favorites, The Twees, recently released their new EP...and it's fantastic! Their EP entitled 'Lessons To Connect', mixes pop and indie rock reminding you of a mixture of The Strokes and Franz Ferdinand, 'Full Circle' showcases this comparison the most out of all the songs. Head bopping beats and catchy lyrics make 'Lessons To Connect' one of the years best releases, it's a shame more people have yet to have discovered The Twees. 'Full Circle', 'Different Pages', 'Start Again' and 'Lessons to Connect' are the songs that make up the EP, each one stands out in their own unique way. The Twees have it down to a science, they have written songs worth listening to, songs that are sure to catch your attention. We're telling you, The Twees are going places, it's best you join them."

"The Twees are this really adorable three-piece indie pop-rock band from New York.
Their backing is super light and Strokes-inspired; the vocals are deep and have Kapranos written all over them. And there's something just a little off about their guitar parts for whatever reason, which makes them a pretty fun and memorable listen."

"They’ve only been around since January of this year, and seem to be off to a good start. Their sound is bouncy and pop-quirky on their newer songs; more punkish on earlier tracks."

"With a name like “The Twees” there’s no getting around these NYC youngsters being the go-getting indie/pop/post-punk. But that’s too easy and there is something really worthwhile about these dudes, their chirpy guitars recall something of Fool’s Gold (afro-beat) variety. However, the Jason Abrishami’s vocals dial notions of a young Lou Reed, with more emotive qualities.
There are moments verging on “Lo-Fi” in their older tracks, and some more punchy math type guitars, always accompanied by Logan Sorrentino consistent drums. The highlights are when they loosen up by vocal distortion through emphasis (refer to I’m Not Saying). The new EP signifies a serious turn for these gentlemen, they are making music for the pop-kids of now. Above all of these is that the Twees are young dudes, who still have things to prove, which will be no major feat for them, listen to them while you lick the salt before the tequila."

"The Twees hail from mighty Long Island and carry on the venerable New York tradition of fun, hip and cocky rock-n-roll. The snaking guitars recall Television while the influence of a certain millennial NYC hipster rock band is clear. The Twees make it all their own with popping post-punk bass and shuffling percussion. Already a force in the local rock scene, these guys are poised for national attention. The Twees was selected as the GIMMESOUND Choice for the Brooklyn GIMMESOUND.COM GiveBack Live Music Series."

Live review from 'Gimmesound.com'
"The Twees were a wildcard entry...fresh-faced kids from Long Island, who turned out to be powerful and promising young musicians. Young? Kids?? Yeah, Logan Sorrentino the drummer's only 17, for god's sake. I've owned cats older than that...and his father is younger than me, OK??? Let me say with only encouragement: The songs aboard gimmesound.com do not fully capture the drive and energy they can deliver in their live set. That's not unusual for any group. And live, this power trio (Jason Abrishami guitar/vox, Will Mazzoli/bass) can amp up and lay down a hyperactive groove. But it ain't funk. A reviewer has said The Twees "have what might best be described as a New York City sound. Their music draws heavily from artists like Lou Reed and early Talking Heads. Cool thumpy rhythms combine with strange staccato guitars and reserved spoken/sung vocals. Hard to rate...but our initial reaction is that these guys ROCK."

"A garage-rock that sounds like The Strokes, courtesy of The Twees"

"I read the blurb that had been written about them while I listened to the first song, Full Circle. The description was "...a mixture of The Strokes and Franz Ferdinand" and whoever it was who said that certainly hit the nail on the head. Mixing the dance style nature of Franz Ferdinand with the vocals of The Strokes The Twees have certainly created a sound that will appeal to many."
